Introducing Ottitor, Advancing Accessibility Auditing with AI

Simplified, Automation

It is our esteemed pleasure to introduce Ottitor, on the world stage, at the World Wide Web Consortium’s week of annual member meetings, called TPAC (Technical Plenary and Advisory Committee). Ottitor is a robust, AI-powered website accessibility auditing tool that is designed to streamline the accessibility auditing process. This innovative approach not only enhances efficiency but also ensures that websites are compliant with industry standards.

The core of Ottitor’s philosophy is the commitment to simplification and automation. We believe that auditing for accessibility shouldn’t be a cumbersome process. This tool automates complex rule implementations and provides clear explanations for issues that are found. With this user-friendly browser extension, fast, reliable, accessibility audits are just a click away. Moreover, we’ve designed Ottitor to support multiple languages, breaking down barriers for users worldwide.

A rule based expert, Explainable AI, system

Many Web Content Accessibility Guideline (WCAG) rules necessitate a semantic understanding of content, which traditionally could only be verified through human intervention. This process was often time-consuming and prone to inconsistencies. At Ottitor, we’re leveraging the power of AI and large language models (LLMs) to automate these checks, making accessibility audits more efficient and reliable. Our proof of concept (POC) has been successfully implemented as a browser extension, allowing for seamless integration into the web browsing experience. This tool can effectively address various WCAG rules that require nuanced comprehension, ensuring that digital content is accessible to all users without the extensive manual effort typically required.

One of the significant features of Ottitor is its ability to address the challenges posed by abbreviations, idioms, and jargon, and analyze links gor coherence . Our tool not only expands abbreviations for better comprehension but also provides interpretations in multiple languages, making information accessible to a broader audience. Idioms and jargon can be tricky for users, especially those unfamiliar with a language. Ottitor ensures that the meaning of terminologies is clear, providing explanations for idioms and phrases, and again, supports multiple languages to ensure inclusivity. Effective communication is key to accessibility which is emphasized with the importance of link content analysis and understanding context. Ottitor performs in-depth content and context analysis, highlighting problematic phrases like “Click here” to enhance user navigation and understanding.

Natural Language Processing

Ottitor also provides localization, which is critical in making websites accessible to diverse populations. Ottitor automatically recognizes website languages and represents information in localized languages such as English, German, and Hindi. This feature ensures that all users can access content in their preferred language, furthering our goal of inclusivity.

The Constraints of AI for the Masses

While Ottitor is a powerful tool, it’s important to acknowledge its current limitations. The existing AI model is still evolving and faces challenges in processing certain elements. For example, we are currently unable to handle very complex or heavy web pages in one scan due to token limitations or exceeding the number of allowable API requests. These constraints can impact the tool's ability to analyze and provide feedback on large-scale content effectively. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to refining our technology and expanding its capabilities based on user feedback and continuous development.

Our Features of the Future

Looking ahead, Ottitor will expand its capabilities significantly. In the near future updates will include advanced features like screen recording analysis, video and audio file analysis, image analysis, and dynamic content analysis. By recognizing patterns and relationships in data, we aim to enhance the auditing process even further, ensuring comprehensive accessibility reviews.

Ottitor stands at the forefront of accessibility auditing, driven by a commitment to simplification, automation, and inclusivity. With features that address common challenges in accessibility, we are excited to lead the charge in making digital content accessible for everyone.
